This is our immunohistochemistry, IF and special stains control tissue cheat sheet. We are giving this to you because everyone could use some help and that’s how I contribute to you.
As you may know, control tissue types for antibodies can be difficult to figure out. The majority of what’s listed here is for human tissues but many, at least for mouse do cross over. When researching antibody controls, I always read at journal articles to see what others used and also refer to the Human Protein Atlas. The atlas is a huge help for tissue types both normal and abnormal tissues.
I’ve found that using tissue micro arrays(TMA) for testing antibodies helps greatly. TMA’s cut down on the number of slides run, time, reagents and microscope time. One TMA block can contain both normal and abnormal tissues for each species. Blocks typically can also produce hundreds of slides.
